Vernal Minthe Stout

  • SRM Color : 41
  • Brewer: Ska Brewing
  • Brewer's Description: Real Spearmint and Peppermint - not Extract - Combine with cocoa nibs and vanilla beans to create your reward for making it through winter. Ancient Greeks tell us ('cause we talk to them) that Persephone turned Minthe into a mint plant in a jealous rage, to keep the little nymph away from her man Hades. Jealous rages rarely end well, but if one sis result in mint we're glad: This was a unique and delicious Stout, and we recommend having one while you calm the hell down.
  • Recommended Glassware: A Goblet
  • Russ' rating: 8.5 of 10
  • With the brew: Find out!
  • Comments: I cant think of a better flavor pairing for a nice dark Stout than mint. Popping the can and pouring the beer produces a sweet and sharp mint nose rising from the nice head of average size ( 0.5mm - 0.7mm ) bubbles. The head settles quickly but leaves a nice layer crowning the top of the beer as you drink it. As you would expect the big flavor of the mint completely dominates the beer, but the subtle chocolate and roasted grain flavor of the Stout provides a nice earthy balance.
