Terra Incognita Collaboration Ale

  • SRM Color : 47
  • Brewer: Boulevard and Sierra Nevada
  • Brewer's Description: An earthy beer, celebrating the unique terroir of our two locations. The blend incorporates (roughly) 45% foudre-aged, 30% Templeton-aged, and 25% fresh dry-hopped beer—all aimed at showcasing some predominant oak characteristics with a subtle hint of earthy hops. Then just prior to bottling we added a dose of the wild yeast Brettanomyces, and allowed the beer to age for over three months.
  • Recommended Glassware: A Tulip
  • Russ' rating: 8.5 of 10
  • With the brew: The first Sunburn of Summer
  • Comments: With an earthy and immediate scent reminiscent of a Belgian quad, this beer pours dark and quick with a large and lasting head of lager than average bubbles ( > 0.7mm ). It is possibly the lightest barrel aged beer I have tasted with a rich sweet and almost smokey taste. The lingering taste is hoppy and crisp leaving a pleasant mouth feel. Normally it would be dark for a "summer" beer but its lighter than its dark appearance suggests.
