Brooklyn Local 1

  • SRM Color : 6
  • Brewer: Brooklyn Brewery
  • Brewer's Description: In Williamsburg, Brooklyn, we forge barley malt and hops from Germany, aromatic raw sugar from Mauritius and yeast from Belgium into our latest  beer, Brooklyn Local 1. Behind the full golden color you’ll find an alluring  aroma, a dynamic complex of flavors, Belgian flair, Brooklyn fortitude and a dusting of our special yeast. To create this beer, we use the old technique of 100% bottle re-fermentation, a practice now rare even in Europe. It gives this beer a palate of unusual depth. Enjoy it locally or globally, as an aperitif or with your favorite dishes.

  • Comments: This beer was given to me by my sister and her husband. They are a great couple who "gets it" when it comes to beer nerds. They bought me not one but TWO bottles of this beer so I could review one and cellar the other. This beer pours fast with a large head of average size bubbles ( 0.5mm - 0.7mm). The head was long lasting and there was foam in the bottom fof the glass when I was done drinking the beer. the nose of the brew was instantly familiar with the Belgian yeast and sublet malt note. Sipping the beer was surprisingly unique, it has an expected Belgian Ale character with a subtle falvor lingering in the back of the palate that I can only describe as "watery". Do not mistake my meaning for a watered down or unpleasing experience, but it had the taste of water from an unfamiliar source. It was kind of like going somewhere new for vacation and trying to describe how different the water tasted. As the beer warmed to cellar temperature it was more and more pleasant. I am very much looking forward to trying the second bottle in 18-24 months!
