Griffin's Bow

  • SRM Color : 13
  • Brewer: Samuel Adams
  • Brewer's Description: From the aroma and notes of sweet honeysuckle, pineapple, and grapefruit, to richer hints of burnt sugar, and toffee, this intriguing brew is full of complex flavors. The distinct character of toasted oak adds depth and contrasts the light fruit sweetness. This unique take on a barleywine ale surprises with its smoothness and balance of fruit, hop citrus, and warming strength.
  • Recommended Glassware: A Conic or Nonic
  • Russ' rating: 8.5 of 10
  • With the brew: The 2012 ACC Basketball Championship
  • Comments: This was a surprising Beer. It was recommended to me by my friend Jeff R. The aroma of the pour was lightly sweet, and hoppy, and produced a fine head with medium bubbles(0.5mm - 0.7mm). The head was long lasting and cast an aroma over each sip that added to the lovely complexity of this brew. The body of the beer was a clear caramel color that suited the flavor very well. The scent at the rim of the glass is very hoppy, but the body of the beer is very sweet. The balance struck is just wonderful. The beer tasted of sweet fruit, and combined with the hoppy head, the brewer nailed the description with "grapefruit" There are some sweeter notes as you swallow, but even in a beer this complex and richly flavored none of them were so intense as to be overpowering or unpleasant. at a 10% ABV I will happily be cellaring a few bottles of this beer for future enjoyment.
